FAQs for a 9-Day Lima, Cusco, Short Inca Trail & Lake Titicaca Tour Package

What is included in this tour package?
The package typically includes airport transfers, domestic flights, accommodations, guided tours, entrance tickets (including Machu Picchu and Short Inca Trail), transport (train, bus, boat), and some meals.

What is the Short Inca Trail?
The Short Inca Trail is a 2-day hike that covers the final part of the classic Inca Trail route. It includes a visit to Wiñay Wayna and entrance to Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate.

Is the Short Inca Trail less difficult than the classic trail?
Yes. It’s shorter and less physically demanding, ideal for travelers who want to experience Inca Trail trekking without the full 4-day hike.

Do I need a permit for the Short Inca Trail?
Yes. Permits are required and included in the tour package. Booking early is still recommended as spots are limited.

Are international flights included?
No. International flights to and from Peru are not included in the package price.

Is this tour suitable for all fitness levels?
The Short Inca Trail requires moderate fitness. It includes 5–6 hours of hiking on the first day, some of which is uphill and at altitude.

Will I be guided during the Short Inca Trail hike?
Yes. A professional, English-speaking guide accompanies you for the entire trail and Machu Picchu visit.

What’s the highest altitude we’ll reach?
The highest point on the Short Inca Trail is around 2,700 meters (8,858 feet). Lake Titicaca is higher, at 3,812 meters (12,507 feet).

Will I have time to acclimatize before hiking?
Yes. The tour includes a few days in Cusco and the Sacred Valley before hiking to help your body adjust to the altitude.

What kind of accommodations are provided?
Comfortable 3-star hotels in Lima, Cusco, Aguas Calientes, and Puno are standard. Upgrades to 4- or 5-star hotels may be available.

Are meals included?
Breakfasts are typically included daily. Some lunches or dinners may be included, especially during excursions and the Short Inca Trail.

How do we get to Lake Titicaca from Cusco?
You’ll travel by tourist bus or train from Cusco to Puno, with scenic stops or onboard commentary depending on the chosen option.

What activities are included at Lake Titicaca?
A full-day boat tour visiting the Uros Floating Islands and Taquile Island, with opportunities to interact with local communities.

Can I swim in Lake Titicaca?
You can, but it’s very cold year-round due to the high altitude. Most visitors prefer to enjoy boat tours and cultural visits.

Is altitude sickness a concern?
Yes. Cusco and Lake Titicaca are at high elevations. Most people adjust with rest, hydration, and coca tea. Acclimatization time is built into the itinerary.

What kind of transportation is used?
You’ll use a mix of flights (Lima to Cusco), trains (to/from Machu Picchu), buses (Sacred Valley and Puno), and boats (Lake Titicaca).

Do I need travel insurance?
It’s strongly recommended to cover medical issues, cancellations, and lost luggage, especially given the altitude and outdoor activities.

Can I store my luggage during the Short Inca Trail?
Yes. Most Cusco hotels or your tour operator will provide secure luggage storage while you’re hiking.

Is it possible to extend the tour?
Yes. You can add extra nights in Cusco, Lima, or Puno, or extend to Arequipa, the Amazon, or Colca Canyon.

What should I pack for the tour?
Bring hiking shoes, sun protection, layered clothing, a rain jacket, reusable water bottles, and a small daypack for the Short Inca Trail. A detailed list is usually provided.
