About Wayra known as “King of the Mountains”

Quechuas Expeditions was born in Cusco from the passion of Wayra (which means “wind” in Quechua), a professional mountain and jungle guide with more than 25 years of experience in Peru’s tourism industry. His talent emerged when he began organizing trips for high school students across Peru and South America, sharing the wonders of Cusco and the Sacred Valley with them. That passion soon took him to the trails: for nine years, while studying tourism in Cusco, he guided the Inca Trail, Salkantay Trek, Choquequirao, Ausangate and other treks in Peru and Bolivia, earning the nickname “The King of the Mountains” among his friends.

In 2000 he graduated in tourism and became an officially certified guide, working with the Inka Museum and the Peruvian Ministry of Tourism. He then studied Archaeology at the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco and, after three years, traveled through South America and Europe, gathering ideas to build a successful travel agency in his hometown.

Back in Cusco, he founded the agency and named it after his roots: Wayra comes from a family of native Quechua speakers, the indigenous people of the Andes. Many visitors call locals “Incas,” but the word Inka actually refers to the ruler of the empire, not its people.
