The Cultural Zone provides a unique blend of pristine rainforests, winding rivers, and vibrant wildlife. As you explore the trails, you’ll encounter exotic species such as monkeys, macaws, capybaras, and the elusive jaguar, while experiencing the wonders of the Amazonian ecosystem. Guided jungle hikes led by expert naturalists give you the chance to discover medicinal plants, rare flora, and hidden creatures that thrive in this untouched paradise.
In addition to wildlife, the Cultural Zone is home to indigenous communities who have lived in harmony with nature for centuries. Whether you’re boating along the Madre de Dios River or taking a night walk to spot nocturnal creatures, Manu’s Cultural Zone promises an unforgettable journey into one of the most biodiverse and culturally rich areas on Earth.
Our journey begins in Cusco as we board a private bus. Our first stop is the Ninamarca pre-Inca burial towers, followed by a scenic drive through the mountains to the charming town of Paucartambo. We’ll take a short walk around the town before continuing to Tres Cruces, the highest point and entrance to Manu National Park. From there, we venture into the Cloud Forest, reaching San Pedro. Here, we’ll embark on a one-hour walk to observe Peru’s national bird, the cock of the rock, as well as various monkeys, plants, and flowers. At Atalaya, we’ll board a boat and cruise down the Alto Madre de Dios river to Soga de Oro, where we’ll spend the night. Accommodation will be on raised platforms in tents.
We’ll start the day early and continue our journey by boat. Along the way, we’ll have the opportunity to spot a variety of birds, such as egrets, herons, cormorants, and kingfishers along the river. We’ll also have the chance to bathe in natural hot springs. In the evening, we’ll embark on a several-hour walk in search of peccaries, monkeys, and other wildlife. Once again, we can gather around a bonfire, relax, and enjoy some drinks. Overnight accommodation will be in tents on the sandbank.
We’ll rise early to visit the parrots clay lick and then have breakfast. Afterward, we’ll return to Atalaya by boat, where our private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. Our return journey will take us through the cloud forest and Paucartambo. We’ll arrive in Cusco in the late afternoon.

Most people automatically assume that the weather is hot in South America, but because of the higher altitude in the Andes, the temperature can feel quite cold, especially at night. We recommend the use of a duffel bag or backpack, whichever is easiest for you to carry. A good size daypack is also essential.

Really enjoyed the experience with friends, something to cherish for the rest of my life. If you go I highly recommend you ask for Fernando. He was our guide for the entire trip. Extremely knowledgeable and made the experience that much more memorable. He started the trip as a guide and by the end became a friend, the time you spend on the trek, you really want someone who fits with your group and I can't imagine a better person who could fit better in anyone's group. As well, the trek itself was difficult but very enjoyable, something to push yourself to your limits. Every day was extremely rewarding, not to mention the hot springs was well worth it. Ted2024-02-24Verified Best Peru Experience Had an amazing trip. Fernando the tour guide was the highlight, and made our experience fantastic. Fantastic and absolutely recommended. They offer a very interesting package both for the price and for the service. Our guide Fernando Illapa taught us a lot about Inca history and the Andean way of life. He and our cook were very attentive and cordial throughout the experience. Our food was amazing and the camping equipment in perfect condition. D r2024-01-27Verified an unforgettable experience It was a wonderful experience. From the beginning Wayra gave us all the information, always attentive and answering all our questions. During the trip we had Fernando Illapa as our guide. We must say that he is a great professional, thoroughly knowledgeable about the path and with a great sense of humor and a lot of patience, which made everything easier in the most demanding moments of the Inca trail. The accompanying team is very organized and I must say that the food exceeded our expectations. Dishes that could well be served in a restaurant and extremely abundant. We did the road with my husband and there were very difficult sections of great physical demand, but the impressive landscapes and discovering archaeological sites along the way make it worth it. We were also fortunate to have excellent travel companions. An unforgettable experience with the help of a professional team that paid attention to all the details.
