Why is Salkantay Sky Camp a unique experience in Peru?

The Salkantay Sky Camps offer a unique experience in the heart of the Andes. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, turquoise lagoons, lush valleys, and vibrant jungle, each moment feels magical. Every night, you’ll stay in comfortable domes that let you admire the stars and wake up to the beauty of the mountains. This exclusive mountain retreat combines adventure, comfort, and nature in perfect harmony

Soraypampa Sky Camp

Soraypampa is the perfect Salkantay Sky camp to start your adventure. With stunning views of the mountains and Humantay Lake, it’s the ideal place to disconnect and enjoy the serenity. From here, you can take a short walk to the turquoise waters of the lake, surrounded by the majesty of the Andes. A perfect spot to experience nature at its best. An unforgettable experience!

Soraypampa Sky Camp

The first camp is located in Soraypampa, at approximately 3,900 meters above sea level. It’s the ideal starting point for those who want to visit the famous Humantay Lagoon, one of the most photographed landscapes along the route.

The weather here is cold, especially at night, and temperatures often drop below freezing. What makes this place magical is the breathtaking panorama of the Humantay and Salkantay mountains, which seem to watch over the valley.

Services and amenities

Designated areas for stargazing tents or glass domes (“sky domes”).

Community food spaces where agencies serve dinner.

Some areas have basic bathrooms, although they may be shared.

Recommendations

Bring a sleeping bag rated for -10°C or rent one in Cusco.

Thermal clothing and gloves are essential.

Don't forget your camera, the sunrises here are spectacular.

Chaullay Sky Camp

Chaullay Camp is where the Andes meet the jungle, offering a unique blend of both worlds. Surrounded by lush vegetation, this camp provides stunning views of the tropical landscape. Enjoy activities like horseback riding or Pachamanca cooking classes while immersing yourself in local culture. It’s a perfect spot to relax, connect with nature, and experience the vibrant biodiversity of the high jungle. A true Andean adventure!

After crossing the Salkantay Pass (4,650 m above sea level), the highest point of the trek, the route descends to Chaullay, where the second night is spent. This campsite is located at 2,900 m above sea level, which means the climate is now much more temperate and humid, with a highland jungle atmosphere filled with vegetation and streams.

Sleeping in Chaullay is truly rewarding: after the day’s effort, the contrast with the cold of Soraypampa feels like a warm embrace.

Chaullay Sky Camp

Services and amenities

Covered camping areas to protect from the rain.

Shared bathrooms and small snack outlets.

We offer accommodation with luxury beds

Recommendations

Here light clothing will be more useful than thermal clothing.

Use mosquito repellent, as the jungle environment attracts insects.

Take the opportunity to rest, the next day offers more relaxing stretches.

Loreta Sky Camp

Surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant wildlife, Loreta Camp is the perfect place to relax after a day of trekking. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature while discovering local farming techniques and traditions. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the forest, reconnect with the environment, and recharge for the next part of your adventure. A true hidden gem on the trail!

The trek’s third main camp is located in  Loreta (2,100 m above sea level), a place surrounded by coffee and banana plantations. Here, travelers discover another facet of Peru: the hospitality of local families.

Many communities open their spaces for visitors to learn about the organic coffee process, even participating in the harvest and roasting process. It’s a perfect spot to relax, connect with the local culture, and enjoy the pleasant climate.

Loreta Sky Camp

Picnic at Huaypo Lake with Llamas Alpacas + Chinchero, Moray & Maras Salt Mines (From Cusco, Ollantaytambo or Urubamba)

1 Full Day Picnic at Huaypo Lake with Llamas Alpacas + Chinchero, Moray & Maras Salt Mines

You can begin this journey from Cusco, Urubamba, or Ollantaytambo—wherever feels most convenient for you. From there, we’ll set off into the heart of the Sacred Valley. Our first stop is the peaceful Huaypo Lagoon, a hidden gem cradled by rolling hills and snow-capped peaks. Here, you’ll have time to breathe in the stillness, admire the reflections on the water, and enjoy a picnic lunch made with fresh local ingredients, all while surrounded by breathtaking views.

From the lagoon, we continue on to Chinchero, a charming Andean village where tradition and history come alive. You’ll wander through its lively market, step inside the colonial church built over Inca foundations, and meet local artisans who’ll show you the secrets of their weaving—an art passed down through generations. The adventure then takes you to Moray, an extraordinary archaeological site of circular terraces. Once used by the Incas as a kind of agricultural laboratory, these rings of stone reveal just how advanced and ingenious their farming experiments were.

Finally, we arrive at the Maras Salt Mines, where more than 3,000 salt pools shimmer down the mountainside. Still worked by local families in the same way their ancestors did, the salt pans create a stunning mosaic of whites and golds against the rugged landscape.
