The first camp is located in Soraypampa, at approximately 3,900 meters above sea level. It’s the ideal starting point for those who want to visit the famous Humantay Lagoon, one of the most photographed landscapes along the route.
The weather here is cold, especially at night, and temperatures often drop below freezing. What makes this place magical is the breathtaking panorama of the Humantay and Salkantay mountains, which seem to watch over the valley.

After crossing the Salkantay Pass (4,650 m above sea level), the highest point of the trek, the route descends to Chaullay, where the second night is spent. This campsite is located at 2,900 m above sea level, which means the climate is now much more temperate and humid, with a highland jungle atmosphere filled with vegetation and streams.
Sleeping in Chaullay is truly rewarding: after the day’s effort, the contrast with the cold of Soraypampa feels like a warm embrace.
