Your first stop will be the traditional Andean village of Chinchero, known for its deep-rooted textile traditions and stunning mountain views. Here, you will visit the archaeological site and observe local artisans demonstrating ancient weaving techniques passed down through generations.
The journey continues to the remarkable circular terraces of Moray, an impressive Inca agricultural laboratory believed to have been used to experiment with crop cultivation at different altitudes and microclimates. Surrounded by dramatic scenery, this site offers a unique glimpse into the advanced agricultural knowledge of the Incas.
Next, you will visit the spectacular Maras Salt Flats, a vast network of thousands of small salt pools carved into the mountainside. These salt terraces have been used since pre-Inca times and continue to be harvested by local families using traditional methods.
Afterward, you will travel to Ollantaytambo, one of the most important and best-preserved Inca towns. Here, you will explore the impressive archaeological complex, known for its massive stone terraces, ceremonial temples, and strategic location that once served as a military, religious, and agricultural center.
Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant in the Sacred Valley before continuing toward Pisac, where you will visit its renowned archaeological site overlooking the valley and learn about its agricultural terraces and ceremonial areas.
At the end of this enriching day, you will return to Cusco, arriving in the evening for an overnight stay at your hotel.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch included
Early in the morning, you will be transferred from your hotel to the Ollantaytambo Train Station, where you will board the scenic train bound for Km 104, the starting point of your unforgettable Short Inca Trail adventure.
Upon arrival at Km 104 (2,100 m / 6,890 ft), you will meet your professional guide and begin the hike by crossing the Urubamba River. The first stop along the trail will be the impressive archaeological site of Chachabamba, where you will learn about its ceremonial importance during Inca times. From here, the trail ascends gradually through lush cloud forest filled with orchids, ferns, and diverse birdlife.
After approximately 3 hours of hiking, you will reach the beautiful Inca site of Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young), one of the most remarkable archaeological complexes along the Inca Trail. Here, you will enjoy a well-deserved boxed lunch while admiring the stunning agricultural terraces and panoramic mountain views.
Following lunch and time to explore the site, you will continue along a relatively gentle section of the trail toward the legendary Sun Gate (Inti Punku). Arriving at this iconic viewpoint in the afternoon, you will be rewarded with your first breathtaking panoramic view of the majestic Machu Picchu, a truly unforgettable moment.
From the Sun Gate, you will descend toward the citadel, where you will take memorable photos from the upper terraces before continuing by shuttle bus down to Aguas Calientes, the charming town located at the base of Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will check into your hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. The evening will be free to relax and prepare for the guided visit to Machu Picchu the following day.
After an early breakfast, you will begin your walk at 5:00 a.m. toward Machu Picchu, following the scenic path that leads to the entrance of the citadel. Arriving in the early morning allows you to experience the peaceful atmosphere of the sanctuary as the sun begins to illuminate the ancient stone structures.
Upon arrival, you will enter the sanctuary and begin a guided tour of Machu Picchu, lasting approximately 2 hours. During this fascinating visit, your guide will lead you through the most important sectors of the citadel, sharing the history, architectural brilliance, and mysteries of this iconic Inca masterpiece.
After the guided tour, you will have free time to continue exploring the site at your own pace. Those with permits will also have the opportunity to hike Huayna Picchu Mountain, a rewarding climb that offers spectacular panoramic views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding valleys—an unforgettable highlight for adventurous travelers.
After fully enjoying your visit to the Lost City of the Incas, you will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have time to relax and enjoy lunch before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo.
Upon arrival at Ollantaytambo, our private transportation will be waiting to transfer you back to Cusco, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, you will be transferred to the boat dock, where your Amazon adventure begins. From here, you will board a motorized boat for an approximately 30–40 minute journey along the scenic Madre de Dios River to Amazon Garden Lodge, surrounded by the rich biodiversity of the rainforest.
Upon arrival, our team will assist you with check-in and provide a short orientation. After a brief rest, you will begin your first exploration of the Tambopata region, starting with an exciting canopy experience.
Canopy Walk
Your adventure begins with a short 200-meter walk from the lodge to the Canopy Tower, which rises approximately 35 meters (115 ft) above the forest floor and is built beside a majestic Lupuna Tree, one of the most iconic trees of the Amazon. From this elevated viewpoint, you will have the opportunity to observe a variety of bird species and enjoy panoramic views of the rainforest canopy while your expert guide shares insights into the surrounding flora and fauna.
Zip-Line Adventure
After exploring the canopy tower, you will prepare for an exhilarating zip-line experience. Your instructor will provide safety instructions before you glide along a zip-line approximately 190 meters (623 ft) long, offering a thrilling perspective of the rainforest from above. Upon reaching the platform, you will cross a suspended bridge of approximately 100 meters, followed by a return zip-line back to the starting point.
After completing these activities, you will return to Amazon Garden Lodge to enjoy a delicious traditional Amazon lunch, followed by time to relax in the hammocks and soak in the peaceful surroundings.
Kayaking on the Madre de Dios River
In the early afternoon, the adventure continues with a kayaking excursion on the Madre de Dios River. Our team will provide all necessary safety equipment, including life jackets, and a motorized safety boat will accompany the group throughout the activity. During this relaxing experience, you may also have the opportunity to cool off with a refreshing swim in the river, depending on weather and river conditions.
Monkey Island Visit
Following kayaking, you will board the boat for a 15-minute ride downstream to Monkey Island, home to several species of monkeys. Here, you may observe capuchin monkeys, black monkeys (Cebus apella), and white-fronted monkeys (Cebus albifrons), among others. Accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide, you will learn about their behavior and natural habitat while observing them in the wild.
After this fascinating visit, you will return to Amazon Garden Lodge at approximately 4:30 p.m., where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of the Amazon sunset.
Evening Caiman Spotting
After sunset, you will embark on a guided night boat excursion equipped with flashlights and reflectors to search for caimans along the riverbanks. The reflection of their eyes makes them easier to spot in the darkness, offering a unique opportunity to observe these nocturnal reptiles in their natural environment.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., you will return to the lodge to enjoy dinner and a well-deserved rest.
Wake up to the peaceful sounds of birds echoing through the rainforest as a new day begins in the Amazon. In the morning, you will enjoy a delicious traditional Amazon breakfast, featuring fresh fruit juice, locally brewed Peruvian coffee, eggs, pancakes, fried plantains, and other regional specialties.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., you will board a boat to cross the Madre de Dios River, arriving at the entrance control post of the Tambopata National Reserve, where visitor details are registered by local authorities. From here, you will begin a guided jungle hike of approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 miles), lasting about one hour, leading to the beautiful Lake Sandoval.
During the hike, your guide will help you identify a wide variety of flora and fauna. With some luck, you may observe wildlife such as monkeys, birds, and even the famous giant river otters, one of the most remarkable species found in this region.
Upon reaching the shores of Lake Sandoval, you will enjoy a picnic-style lunch surrounded by the pristine beauty of the rainforest. After lunch, you will board a traditional rowing canoe and glide across the tranquil waters of the lake, offering excellent opportunities to observe wildlife in its natural habitat.
Lake Sandoval is home to a rich diversity of species, including hoatzins, cormorants, anhingas, and other birdlife. Occasionally, visitors may also spot the playful giant river otters, often referred to locally as “river wolves.”
After this immersive experience, you will return to Amazon Garden Lodge to rest and relax.
In the evening, at approximately 6:30 p.m., you will set out on a guided night walk through the surrounding forest. This nocturnal exploration offers a unique opportunity to discover species that become active after dark, such as insects, amphibians, and other fascinating creatures. Your guide will provide detailed explanations about the nocturnal ecosystem and its inhabitants.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., you will return to the lodge to enjoy dinner and spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the Amazon rainforest.
Begin your day with a traditional Amazon breakfast served at the lodge, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the rainforest.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., you will set out on a guided hike to visit a nearby native community, offering a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into their daily life and cultural traditions. During your visit, you will meet members of a local indigenous family, known for preserving their ancestral customs, craftsmanship, and traditional way of life. You will learn about their history, survival techniques, and artistic traditions, including their distinctive handmade paintings. Guests interested in supporting the community may have the opportunity to purchase local artwork directly from the artisans.
After the community visit, you will continue by boat to a nearby creek or lagoon area, where you will enjoy a rustic sport fishing experience. This body of water is home to several species of fish, including catfish, maiden fish, sardines, and piranhas. With guidance from your local team, you will try your hand at traditional fishing techniques.
Following the activity, you will return to the lodge with your catch, and the chef will prepare your freshly caught fish using traditional Amazonian flavors, served as part of your lunch.
The afternoon will be free for relaxation, allowing you to unwind in the lodge’s hammocks or enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the rainforest at your own pace.
In the evening, you will gather once again at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Posted on Sara DVerified 10/10 Experience - Would Recommend! We had an amazing time on the Salkantay 5 Day Trek. Before the trip started, Quechuas had great communication and was very accommodating to our travel schedule, including adjusting our briefing time with our guide. The skydome accomodations were great (all fairly spacious, with exception of night 2, which was fine as we didn’t spend much time there), the food was delicious (a great variety and always more than enough to go around) and the trek itself was beautiful. Our guide Steven, as well as second guide Jorge, were very patient, knowledgeable and kind to us and the others in our group - not only did we get to see incredible scenery but we also learned a lot about the local landscape and culture. We rented sleeping bags, which we would highly recommend. We brought our own hiking poles but would recommend renting if you don’t bring your own.Overall, an amazing experience and we would highly recommend this company.Posted on Matthew WVerified Seamless and Supportive Inca Trail Experience – Highly Recommend We recently completed the 4-day Classic Inca Trail trek with Quechuas Expeditions in June 2025, and overall had a fantastic experience that struck the perfect balance between physical challenge and logistical ease. Our guide, Fernando (“Nando”), was outstanding—passionate, deeply knowledgeable about the trail’s rich history, and highly supportive throughout. He kept our group motivated and informed, and managed different paces and needs with professionalism and care. His English was great, and he always made time to answer questions or share interesting stories along the way.The porter and chef team were phenomenal. Every meal was different, delicious, and plentiful—we were never hungry, and dietary needs (including vegan and vegetarian) were handled without issue. They even baked a custom cake on the trail for a couple’s anniversary, which speaks volumes about their care and capability. The porters themselves were friendly, warm, and constantly going above and beyond to support us.Quechuas provided tents, sleeping bags, a toilet tent, and hot water for face washing each morning, plus coca tea as a wake-up touch. The duffel service was useful, though we did find the weight limits a bit tighter than expected once you factor in the sleeping bag. In the end, we paid for an extra porter—which was easy to arrange but worth noting for those planning their packing. One thing we didn’t know in advance: the porter bags aren’t waterproof, so future trekkers may want to use dry bags or line the inside with plastic.Another small consideration: due to how campsites are assigned (by the government, not the tour company), some days ended up being longer than the traditional day-by-day breakdown you might read online. While not Quechuas’ fault, for myself, as much heads-up as possible would’ve helped with my own mental preparation. All said, Quechuas Expeditions delivered where it mattered most. The logistics were smooth, the staff was superb, and their support allowed us to focus on enjoying the trail and the breathtaking views without worrying about the rest. This is a company that knows what it’s doing.Would I recommend them? Absolutely—whether you’re a first-time trekker or experienced hiker, they make an unforgettable journey that much more seamless and enjoyable. If I ever do this again, I would book with them without question, and if possible, request the exact same team. Thank you Fernando and team for a trip of a lifetime and memories that will stay with me forever 🙏Posted on Arianna OVerified Amazing trip on the Inca Trail with Quechuas Expeditions I never imagined that the Inca Trail could be so transformative. My partner and I decided to do the classic 4-day trek with Quechuas Expeditions and, honestly, it exceeded all our expectations. From the very first moment we felt very welcome. The service was impeccable, they were always attentive to our needs, solving all our doubts before and during the trek. The hike was not easy, but the views, the fresh mountain air and the energy of the group kept us going without thinking about how tiring it was. The meals at the campsites surprised us pleasantly, we really did not expect so much variety and flavor in the middle of the mountain. And the end, reaching Machu Picchu through the sun gate (Inti Punku) was simply magical, there are no words to describe that moment. It is definitely a unique experience that connects you with the history, culture and nature of Peru. Thank you Quechuas Expeditions for making this trip so special!Posted on naomiammarVerified Hardest challenge of my life but worth it One of the hardest things I have ever done (definitely underestimate the difficulty level), and I don’t know if I would have made it if it wasn’t for our awesome guide Frenando and all the amazing staff we had. What a fantastic group of people. The porters are so hard working, it’s so humbling. The chef Taco was fantastic! I am vegan and he made me the most amazing food the entire time. I couldn’t believe it. And then our guide Fernando topped it all. Knowledgeable, professional yet fun, very personable, very patient (we were slow!) and very encouraging. If you are considering taking on this challenge, I highly recommend Quechua’s Expeditions and if you can request Fernando. E sure to do so. He’s been doing this for 19yrs!Posted on cade cVerified Awesome trek We really enjoyed our trip. It was challenging and also rewarding. Beautiful views and even better food. I can’t rave enough about our cook Santiago! Food was unbelievable. Jose did a fantastic job leading us along the way. He did a good job of explaining what we are seeing! Looking for a physical challenge with beautiful views this is the trek for you.Posted on Lola UVerified Demanding, enriching and unforgettable thanks to the human team I will always be grateful to the rich food and attentions of Santiago, the cook, the professionalism and good advice of José, the guide, the kindness of the helpers, who have made it possible to improve the experience.Posted on Julia C.Verified Amazing trek, amazing guide and staff The Salkantay Trek was absolutely stunning, domes and the views were great with hot water available. What the trek made very special was our guide Nildo. Also, the chef Julian, horseman and second guide were incredible too. Nildo was knowledgeable, caring and passionate about everything he shared. I cannot imagine a better guide :-) Everything was very well organized.Posted on Emelie AVerified Hike of a lifetime! We had the most amazing time! The different sceneries along the trek are just unbelievable and although being two fairly unfit persons we could enjoy it all the way. Fernando and Steven are terrific guides making sure we were all comfortable and happy at all times. The food and accommodations along the way were also a lot more luxurious than what we’d expected. Would 100% recommend this to anyone who’s up for a hike!!
