A great Alternative Salkantay Trek to Machupicchu by Hiking and glamping in EcoDome
National Geographic Adventure Magazine rated the Salkantay trek as one of the 25 Best Treks in the World.
Mount Salkantay (or Nevado Salkantay / Salcantay) is one of the most iconic mountains in the Cusco region and the highest mountain in the Vilcabamba Mountain range.
This is a very unique version of the Classic Salkantay Trek and Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The first two days follow one of the common Salkantay trails, but on the 3rd day, we depart the trails to enjoy a less trodden path that connects with the Classic Inca Trail. You even get the opportunity to walk a portion of the Classic Inca Trail on the 3rd day.
The Salkantay Trek is named after Mount Salkantay (6,271 m / 20,574 feet). This Sacred Mountain is higher than any mountain in North America. On the Salkantay trek, you will see gorgeous blue lakes, stunning glaciers, cloud forests, and rainforests. The last portion of this particular trek has an ecosystem more typical of the Inca Trail with lush green vegetation and many archeological ruins. This trek is a great blend of the two most popular hikes within Peru.
Instructions for Online Booking (Reservations)
Choose a Date
Step One: Check Availability
Make sure to book well in advance. Confirm that there are still available spots in our group and reserve as early as possible since our tour departure dates are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your entry date into Peru. If you do not have a valid passport or plan to renew it before coming to Peru, please refer to our FAQ and Booking & Conditions page for more information.
Select your preferred date or join us on any of the fixed departure dates (we need 02 people to open a new departure date). Rest assured that we will never transfer you to another operator, as most travel agencies do here. (They share transportation, food, guides, cooks, and porters) to minimize costs, which is why many charge less than us. They focus on sharing with other companies. But Quechuas Expeditions will organize the tour even if the group consists of only 02 people.
Step Two: Verify Your Personal Information and Make a Reservation
Complete our Inca Trail reservation form (see attachment). Do not make a reservation until you have all the details below. We cannot accept a reservation without all names, nationalities, passport numbers, and ages:
For any Inca Trail reservation, the following client information is required:
IMPORTANT NOTE: The exact information you provide will be submitted to the Government Institution (INC) in charge of regulating access to the Inca Trail and will be included in the official permit for the requested entry date.
If any changes to the information above occur (e.g., passport number change), please inform your travel advisor by email as soon as possible. The government reserves the right to deny entry to any visitor whose details do not match exactly with the official permit. Quechuas Expeditions Tours assumes no responsibility for denied entry if the passenger’s information changes without prior notice.
Step Three: Trek Deposit
To book the Inca Trail with us, clients must make a deposit. Please note that the program deposit is non-refundable. Without an initial payment, your Inca Trail trek is not confirmed.
Payments can be made via Western Union, PayPal, or Bank Transfer (Western Union is the fastest and most secure payment method in Peru).
Step Four: Trip Invoice Confirmation
We will send you a trip invoice for the trek and deposit (with the signature of our travel advisor) once we receive all the above requirements. Please print this document to present it at our office in Cusco.
NOTE: Before departing for Peru, it is advisable to inform your bank that you will be traveling to Peru so you do not encounter issues with your credit/bank cards while abroad. Remember that the daily withdrawal limit in Peru may be lower than your usual limit in your home country.
PRE-DEPARTURE INFORMATION FOR THE INCA TRAIL
You will meet with your group and guide, and any rental equipment (such as sleeping bags and duffel bags) will be provided if you have requested an extra porter. The actual time of your briefing (6 or 7 p.m.) will be confirmed at your office check-in 2 days before the trek.
If you do not have an operator in Cusco, our office can assist with reconfirming any domestic flights to Lima or other cities. Please inquire for more details when making your reservation.
We suggest you leave any luggage you don’t need for the hike at your hotel. Nearly all hotels in Cusco have a secure storage area where you can keep your belongings, and they won’t charge you for this service if you return to the same hotel after your trek. However, if they don’t have a storage area, we also have a place where you can leave it with us. Please let us know.
