1 Full Day Humantay Lake Peru Tours Overview:

Humantay Lake, also known as Laguna Humantay on Salkantay Trail, is a stunning turquoise-colored lake located in the Peruvian Andes near Cusco. It has become a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts due to its breathtaking beauty and accessibility. Here’s an overview of Humantay Lake:

Location: Humantay Lake is situated at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level, in the Vilcabamba mountain range of the Andes. It is located about 100 kilometers (62 miles) northwest of Cusco, near the village of Soraypampa.

Natural Beauty: The lake is renowned for its mesmerizing turquoise waters, which are a result of glacial meltwater combined with minerals from the surrounding mountains. The intense blue-green color of the lake, set against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks, creates a truly picturesque scene.

Trekking Experience: The most common way to reach Humantay Lake is through a day hike from Soraypampa. The trek is relatively challenging, involving a round trip of approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) with an elevation gain of around 600 meters (1,970 feet). The trail takes you through scenic landscapes, including valleys, high-altitude grasslands, and rocky terrain.

Scenic Views: The hike to Humantay Lake offers breathtaking views along the way. You’ll be able to admire the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, including the majestic peak of Salkantay. The surrounding mountains, valleys, and glacial landscapes provide a dramatic and awe-inspiring backdrop throughout the trek.

Cultural Significance: Humantay Lake holds cultural significance for the local communities, particularly the Quechua people. It is considered a sacred place and is associated with spiritual beliefs and rituals. Visitors are encouraged to respect the environment and the local customs while exploring the area.

Reflection and Relaxation: Once you reach Humantay Lake, you’ll have the opportunity to take in the serenity of the surroundings. The tranquil atmosphere and the mirror-like reflection of the mountains on the lake’s surface create a peaceful ambiance, making it a perfect spot for meditation and taking in the natural beauty.

Photography Opportunities: Humantay Lake offers incredible photography opportunities. The vibrant colors of the lake, the contrasting landscapes, and the dramatic mountain scenery provide a myriad of compositions for capturing stunning photographs.
