This exclusive journey allows you to explore the best of the Peruvian Andes, combining two of the world’s most stunning and challenging treks. You’ll traverse the majestic Salkantay, one of the region’s highest peaks, and follow the ancient Inca Trail, where every step connects you to the rich history of the Incas. Along the way, you’ll witness breathtaking landscapes, lush valleys, mysterious ruins, and unique flora and fauna, all leading to the iconic Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This is more than just a trek; it’s a transformative experience where effort and beauty merge to create lifelong memories. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the magic of Peru!
The Salkantay Trek is named after Mount Salkantay (6,271 m / 20,574 feet). This Sacred Mountain is higher than any mountain in North America. On the Salkantay trek, you will see gorgeous blue lakes, stunning glaciers, cloud forests, and rainforests. The last portion of this particular trek has an ecosystem more typical of the Inca Trail with lush green vegetation and many archeological ruins. This trek is a great blend of the two most popular hikes within Peru.

The Salkantay trail to Machu Picchu takes you through diverse landscapes, including high mountain passes, cloud forests and lush valleys, and then connects to the Classic Inca Trail which is the most famous and iconic route to Machu Picchu. It follows the ancient paved road used by the Incas centuries ago. The trail is known for its archaeological sites, including Wiñay Wayna and Inti Punku (the Sun Gate), which offer breathtaking panoramic views of Machu Picchu.
Please, Note: Allocations or Itinerary are subject to change depending on time of booking and campsites provided by INC (institution that runs the Classic Inca Trail they allocate campsites for all Travel Companies) Because the 1st 250 spaces go to Wiñayhuayna Campsite which is 2 hours close to Machupicchu and the rest goes to Phuyupatamarca which is 5 hours walk to Machupicchu. So we recommend to book well in advance in order to get Wiñayhuayna campsite.
Your journey begins with an early morning drive through the breathtaking landscapes of the Andes, departing from Cusco toward the village of Mollepata, and continuing up to Challacancha. From here, your trek officially begins as you ascend through stunning mountain scenery toward Soraypampa (3,900 m / 12,795 ft), a high-altitude valley where our first base is located.
Throughout the hike, you’ll be treated to sweeping views of dramatic valleys, snow-draped peaks, and the raw beauty of the high Andes. Upon arrival, our team of experienced muleteers will assist with logistics and gear so you can focus entirely on the experience.
In the afternoon, we’ll hike to the mesmerizing Humantay Lake, known for its jewel-toned turquoise waters and the striking glacial backdrop of Mount Humantay. This serene and sacred site is a perfect prelude to the awe-inspiring landscapes to come.
As evening falls, enjoy a comforting tea time followed by a delicious, chef-prepared dinner. Tonight, you’ll spend the night in our exclusive Sky Lodge Dome at Soraypampa designed for warmth, comfort, and unobstructed stargazing beneath the Andean night sky.
Our trek begins with the support of a bilingual guide and a dedicated mountain crew. Mules will transport your luggage, allowing you to fully enjoy the day’s adventure with just your essentials. For added comfort or assistance, saddle horses are available upon request.
We gradually ascend along a scenic trail that winds along the right shoulder of the majestic Salkantay Mountain. As we gain altitude, the panoramic views grow ever more awe-inspiring—snow-capped peaks piercing the sky and vast, rugged valleys stretching below.
The highlight of the day is reaching the Inca Chirihasca Pass (Frozen Inca) at a breathtaking 5,000 meters, the highest point of the journey. Here, we’ll pause to take in the dramatic Andean landscape before beginning our descent into quieter terrain.
The trail leads us gently down to our serene campsite in Sisaypampa, a remote and peaceful spot cradled between the mountains. After an exhilarating day, we’ll unwind, share stories, and rest beneath the stars—recharging for the days of discovery ahead.
Following a nutritious breakfast, we commence our trek, passing through the quaint village of Huayllabamba as we enter the iconic Inca Trail. The trail soon leads us into a pristine Andean cloud forest, characterized by cool, humid air and a vibrant ecosystem teeming with lush vegetation and diverse wildlife. This verdant environment provides a refreshing contrast to the more arid, high-altitude landscapes encountered earlier, enriching our trekking experience with its unique natural beauty.
As we progress through the cloud forest, the surrounding Andean mountain vistas unfold in spectacular fashion, offering breathtaking views at every turn. Our day concludes upon arrival at the campsite in Huayllabamba, a key junction where the Salkantay Trek converges with the Classic Inca Trail. Here, we will join fellow trekkers, rest in the serene embrace of the forest, and prepare for the next chapter of our adventure.
We start our day early, embarking on the ascent toward the Warmiwanusca Pass. Entering the impeccably preserved Inca Trail, the route reveals spectacular views of the majestic snow-capped Salkantay mountain ranges. This segment is widely regarded as a pinnacle of the trek, offering expansive panoramas of towering peaks, deep valleys, and the pristine natural environment that defines the region.
Though demanding, the climb is immensely rewarding as the scenery becomes progressively more awe-inspiring. Upon reaching the Warmiwanusca Pass— the trail’s highest elevation at 4,200 meters (13,780 feet)—we pause to fully absorb the sweeping vistas that stretch out below us. Following this, we descend toward the Pacaymayo campsite, where we will spend the night. Here, surrounded by the tranquility of the Andes, we can reflect on the day’s remarkable landscapes and cultural significance, marking one of the most unforgettable experiences along the Inca Trail.
We begin with an early morning departure to embark on our hike toward the historic Incan site of Runkuracay. As we ascend to the second mountain pass at approximately 3,900 meters (12,795 feet), we are rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the surrounding peaks. Runkuracay, an ancient Incan watchtower, offers valuable insight into the architectural ingenuity and strategic prowess of the Inca civilization.
Continuing along the trail, we reach Sayacmarca, a remarkable archaeological site perched dramatically on a cliffside, providing sweeping panoramic views of the landscape. After exploring Sayacmarca, we pause at Chaskicocha for a well-earned lunch amid serene and picturesque surroundings.
Our trek then proceeds to Phuyupatamarca, known as the “Town above the Clouds,” situated at around 3,600 meters (11,811 feet). Here, we establish our campsite for the evening, surrounded by stunning views of Machu Picchu Mountain and the distant Andean peaks. The combination of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage makes Phuyupatamarca an ideal setting to rest and contemplate the day’s remarkable journey.
Following an early breakfast at 3:00 a.m., we embark on the final leg of our trek. Anticipation builds as we begin the descent toward Wiñayhuayna, a remarkable Incan archaeological site nestled amidst the mountains. From there, we proceed to the Sungate (Inti Punku), the renowned gateway to Machu Picchu, where we will be rewarded with our first awe-inspiring views of the ancient citadel.
The hike from our last campsite to Machu Picchu takes approximately four to five hours, winding through lush, jungle-like terrain before reaching the iconic Sungate. Upon arrival, we pause to admire the breathtaking panorama of Machu Picchu bathed in the soft light of dawn. Following this, a knowledgeable guide will lead a two-hour tour through the ruins, offering rich insights into the historical and cultural significance of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
After the guided exploration, you will have free time to independently discover the majestic citadel at your own pace, soaking in its unparalleled beauty and atmosphere. Subsequently, we descend to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a bus transfer to Cusco, where this unforgettable journey concludes.

Most people automatically assume that the weather is hot in South America, but because of the higher altitude in the Andes, the temperature can feel quite cold, especially at night. We recommend the use of a duffel bag or backpack, whichever is easiest for you to carry. A good size daypack is also essential.

Posted on Sara DVerified 10/10 Experience - Would Recommend! We had an amazing time on the Salkantay 5 Day Trek. Before the trip started, Quechuas had great communication and was very accommodating to our travel schedule, including adjusting our briefing time with our guide. The skydome accomodations were great (all fairly spacious, with exception of night 2, which was fine as we didn’t spend much time there), the food was delicious (a great variety and always more than enough to go around) and the trek itself was beautiful. Our guide Steven, as well as second guide Jorge, were very patient, knowledgeable and kind to us and the others in our group - not only did we get to see incredible scenery but we also learned a lot about the local landscape and culture. We rented sleeping bags, which we would highly recommend. We brought our own hiking poles but would recommend renting if you don’t bring your own.Overall, an amazing experience and we would highly recommend this company.Posted on Matthew WVerified Seamless and Supportive Inca Trail Experience – Highly Recommend We recently completed the 4-day Classic Inca Trail trek with Quechuas Expeditions in June 2025, and overall had a fantastic experience that struck the perfect balance between physical challenge and logistical ease. Our guide, Fernando (“Nando”), was outstanding—passionate, deeply knowledgeable about the trail’s rich history, and highly supportive throughout. He kept our group motivated and informed, and managed different paces and needs with professionalism and care. His English was great, and he always made time to answer questions or share interesting stories along the way.The porter and chef team were phenomenal. Every meal was different, delicious, and plentiful—we were never hungry, and dietary needs (including vegan and vegetarian) were handled without issue. They even baked a custom cake on the trail for a couple’s anniversary, which speaks volumes about their care and capability. The porters themselves were friendly, warm, and constantly going above and beyond to support us.Quechuas provided tents, sleeping bags, a toilet tent, and hot water for face washing each morning, plus coca tea as a wake-up touch. The duffel service was useful, though we did find the weight limits a bit tighter than expected once you factor in the sleeping bag. In the end, we paid for an extra porter—which was easy to arrange but worth noting for those planning their packing. One thing we didn’t know in advance: the porter bags aren’t waterproof, so future trekkers may want to use dry bags or line the inside with plastic.Another small consideration: due to how campsites are assigned (by the government, not the tour company), some days ended up being longer than the traditional day-by-day breakdown you might read online. While not Quechuas’ fault, for myself, as much heads-up as possible would’ve helped with my own mental preparation. All said, Quechuas Expeditions delivered where it mattered most. The logistics were smooth, the staff was superb, and their support allowed us to focus on enjoying the trail and the breathtaking views without worrying about the rest. This is a company that knows what it’s doing.Would I recommend them? Absolutely—whether you’re a first-time trekker or experienced hiker, they make an unforgettable journey that much more seamless and enjoyable. If I ever do this again, I would book with them without question, and if possible, request the exact same team. Thank you Fernando and team for a trip of a lifetime and memories that will stay with me forever 🙏Posted on Arianna OVerified Amazing trip on the Inca Trail with Quechuas Expeditions I never imagined that the Inca Trail could be so transformative. My partner and I decided to do the classic 4-day trek with Quechuas Expeditions and, honestly, it exceeded all our expectations. From the very first moment we felt very welcome. The service was impeccable, they were always attentive to our needs, solving all our doubts before and during the trek. The hike was not easy, but the views, the fresh mountain air and the energy of the group kept us going without thinking about how tiring it was. The meals at the campsites surprised us pleasantly, we really did not expect so much variety and flavor in the middle of the mountain. And the end, reaching Machu Picchu through the sun gate (Inti Punku) was simply magical, there are no words to describe that moment. It is definitely a unique experience that connects you with the history, culture and nature of Peru. Thank you Quechuas Expeditions for making this trip so special!Posted on naomiammarVerified Hardest challenge of my life but worth it One of the hardest things I have ever done (definitely underestimate the difficulty level), and I don’t know if I would have made it if it wasn’t for our awesome guide Frenando and all the amazing staff we had. What a fantastic group of people. The porters are so hard working, it’s so humbling. The chef Taco was fantastic! I am vegan and he made me the most amazing food the entire time. I couldn’t believe it. And then our guide Fernando topped it all. Knowledgeable, professional yet fun, very personable, very patient (we were slow!) and very encouraging. If you are considering taking on this challenge, I highly recommend Quechua’s Expeditions and if you can request Fernando. E sure to do so. He’s been doing this for 19yrs!Posted on cade cVerified Awesome trek We really enjoyed our trip. It was challenging and also rewarding. Beautiful views and even better food. I can’t rave enough about our cook Santiago! Food was unbelievable. Jose did a fantastic job leading us along the way. He did a good job of explaining what we are seeing! Looking for a physical challenge with beautiful views this is the trek for you.Posted on Lola UVerified Demanding, enriching and unforgettable thanks to the human team I will always be grateful to the rich food and attentions of Santiago, the cook, the professionalism and good advice of José, the guide, the kindness of the helpers, who have made it possible to improve the experience.Posted on Julia C.Verified Amazing trek, amazing guide and staff The Salkantay Trek was absolutely stunning, domes and the views were great with hot water available. What the trek made very special was our guide Nildo. Also, the chef Julian, horseman and second guide were incredible too. Nildo was knowledgeable, caring and passionate about everything he shared. I cannot imagine a better guide :-) Everything was very well organized.Posted on Emelie AVerified Hike of a lifetime! We had the most amazing time! The different sceneries along the trek are just unbelievable and although being two fairly unfit persons we could enjoy it all the way. Fernando and Steven are terrific guides making sure we were all comfortable and happy at all times. The food and accommodations along the way were also a lot more luxurious than what we’d expected. Would 100% recommend this to anyone who’s up for a hike!!
