Altitude & Acclimatization
The Cordillera Huayhuash is a demanding high-altitude environment, making proper acclimatization essential.
We strongly recommend arriving in Huaraz at least 2–3 days before starting the trek. This allows your body time to adjust gradually to the altitude before beginning the more demanding sections of the route.
Good physical preparation, proper hydration, adequate rest, and a gradual approach to altitude can make a significant difference in your trekking experience.
Important Notice
Mountain conditions in the Cordillera Huayhuash can change rapidly. Weather, snowfall, rain, strong winds, trail conditions, road conditions, local regulations, or other circumstances beyond our control may require adjustments to the itinerary.
Our team will make every reasonable effort to follow the planned itinerary whenever conditions allow. However, your safety and well-being always come first, and your guide may modify the route, schedule, campsites, or transportation when necessary.

After breakfast, we continue to Cuartelhuain, where the adventure officially begins. At approximately 9:30 AM, we start hiking into the impressive Cordillera Huayhuash.
Our first section involves a gradual but rewarding ascent toward Cacanan Pass (4,600 m / 15,091 ft). As we gain altitude, the surrounding landscapes become increasingly dramatic, offering spectacular views of remote valleys, rugged mountains, and the high-altitude wilderness of the Huayhuash range.
After reaching the pass, we take time to rest, enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views, and capture photographs before beginning a short descent to our lunch location.
Following lunch, we continue through beautiful Andean landscapes toward our first campsite beside the stunning Mitucocha Lake (4,150 m / 13,615 ft). Surrounded by towering mountains and impressive glacier views, this peaceful campsite provides a spectacular introduction to the Huayhuash Trek.
Upon arrival, your tent will be ready, allowing you time to relax and enjoy a warm drink while taking in the incredible mountain scenery. As evening approaches, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner with your trekking team and receive a briefing from your guide about the adventure ahead.
Spend your first night camping beneath the spectacular Andean sky, surrounded by the peaceful beauty of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
Wake up surrounded by the spectacular high-altitude scenery of Mitucocha, with views of glaciers and towering snow-capped peaks creating an unforgettable start to the day. After enjoying a nutritious breakfast, our trekking team prepares the equipment and pack animals before we begin another spectacular day in the Cordillera Huayhuash.
Today’s route begins with a gradual ascent through beautiful high Andean valleys. As we gain elevation, the landscapes become increasingly dramatic, revealing impressive views of the surrounding mountains and remote wilderness.
After approximately 3–4 hours of hiking, we reach Carhuac Pass, located at approximately 4,650–4,750 m (15,255–15,583 ft). From the pass, you will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the Huayhuash mountain range.
Take time to rest, enjoy a snack, capture photographs, and admire the incredible scenery surrounding you. On a clear day, the dramatic panorama includes views of some of the Cordillera Huayhuash’s most impressive peaks, including Yerupajá, Siula Grande, and other towering snow-covered mountains.
After enjoying the views, we begin our scenic descent toward Carhuacocha. Our route follows a beautiful and less-traveled section of the mountains, offering constantly changing perspectives of the dramatic peaks, valleys, and glaciers.
After approximately 2–2.5 hours of descending, we arrive at our campsite beside the beautiful Carhuacocha Lake, located at approximately 4,150 m (13,615 ft). The campsite offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the impressive summit of Yerupajá (6,635 m).
Upon arrival, enjoy a well-deserved meal and take time to relax beside the turquoise lake. Those who wish to experience the refreshing mountain water may enjoy a swim, weather and conditions permitting. One of the most spectacular days of the entire Huayhuash Trek
Today is one of the true highlights of your Huayhuash adventure. An early start allows us to enjoy the peaceful beauty of the mountains in the morning light and experience one of the most impressive viewpoints on the entire route.
At approximately 5:00 AM, you will receive a warm cup of coca tea or coffee at your tent, followed by breakfast at around 5:30 AM. Once ready, we begin our hike along the shores of Carhuacocha Lake, where the calm turquoise waters reflect the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
The trail initially follows the lake before gradually ascending through a spectacular high-mountain landscape. Over the next few hours, we pass several glacial lakes and make our way across rocky terrain and moraine slopes. Along the route, there is an optional short ascent to a nearby ridge, offering an elevated perspective over the vivid turquoise lakes below.
The main highlight of the morning is the Mirador de Tres Lagunas (Three Lakes Viewpoint). From this remarkable vantage point, three striking turquoise lakes—Gangrajanca, Siulacocha, and Quesillococha—unfold beneath you, surrounded by some of the most impressive peaks of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
The panorama includes Yerupajá, Jirishanca, Siula Grande, and Carnicero, creating an unforgettable mountain scene. Take some time here to rest, enjoy a snack, take photographs, and appreciate the extraordinary scale of the landscape.
Important: Due to conservation regulations in this protected area, horses are not permitted on this section of the route. Our horsemen and pack animals will therefore follow an alternative route and reunite with the group at the campsite later in the day.
From the viewpoint, we continue toward Siula Pass, tackling the final steep ascent over rocky and sometimes loose terrain. After approximately 1.5 hours of climbing, we reach the pass at around 4,830 m / 15,846 ft.
Reaching the summit is a rewarding moment. From here, the eastern side of the Cordillera Huayhuash opens before you, revealing dramatic glaciers, rugged peaks, and expansive high-altitude landscapes stretching into the distance.
A short descent of approximately 15 minutes brings us to our lunch stop, where we enjoy a well-deserved boxed lunch surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.
The most demanding climb of the day is now behind us. We continue with a long but scenic descent through broad Andean valleys covered with ichu grass, passing beneath the impressive walls of Carnicero and Trapecio.
The landscape gradually becomes more open and peaceful as we make our way toward Huayhuash Camp, located at approximately 4,350 m / 14,271 ft. We expect to arrive around 4:30 PM.
Once at camp, enjoy a warm drink and a light snack while the trekking team prepares everything for the evening. Take time to relax, enjoy the surrounding mountain views, and reflect on one of the most spectacular days of your journey through the Cordillera Huayhuash.
Optional: San Antonio Pass
One of the most challenging and spectacular days of the Huayhuash Trek
Today takes us deeper into the remote wilderness of the Cordillera Huayhuash. It is a demanding day at high altitude, but the dramatic scenery, remote landscapes, and extraordinary mountain views make the effort truly worthwhile.
After breakfast, we begin our ascent toward Trapecio Pass, following a steadily rising trail through rugged high-altitude terrain. The climb takes approximately 4 hours, eventually reaching an elevation of 5,020 m / 16,469 ft, making this one of the highest points of the entire trek.
As we approach the pass, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. Once we reach the summit, we are rewarded with expansive views extending across the southern section of the Andes toward the remote Cordillera Raura. The surrounding peaks, including Puscanturpa, Cuyoc, and Millpo, create an impressive mountain panorama.
After taking time to rest and enjoy the views, we begin a long descent toward Pampa Cuyoc. The trail follows rugged and rocky terrain, with sections that can be uneven and less defined. Over approximately 3 hours, we gradually descend through a vast high-mountain landscape characterized by barren slopes, dramatic rock formations, and sweeping views of the surrounding peaks.
The scenery here is particularly remote and impressive, giving you a strong sense of the scale and isolation of the Huayhuash mountain range.
We eventually arrive at Pampa Cuyoc Camp, situated at approximately 4,400 m / 14,435 ft in a broad mountain valley. After the demanding morning, this is the perfect place to relax, enjoy lunch, and take in the surrounding scenery.
Optional Adventure: San Antonio Pass
For experienced trekkers who are well acclimatized and still have sufficient energy, there is an optional extension to San Antonio Pass, reaching approximately 5,100 m / 16,732 ft.
From Trapecio Pass, this additional route involves approximately 1.5–2 hours of climbing, followed by about 1 hour of descent. The effort is rewarded with spectacular panoramic views across the surrounding Huayhuash peaks and valleys.
This optional section is physically demanding and should only be attempted by trekkers who feel strong and comfortable at high altitude. Your guide will assess the conditions and help determine whether it is appropriate to continue.
Depending on the group and trail conditions, lunch can be enjoyed as a scenic picnic near the pass or as a hot meal after reaching camp.
After a full day in the mountains, settle into camp, enjoy a warm meal, and take time to rest and recover for the next stage of the Huayhuash adventure.
A rewarding day of spectacular mountain scenery and a well-deserved change of pace
After several demanding days at high altitude, today offers a more relaxed trekking experience while still providing some of the most beautiful scenery of the Huayhuash route.
We start early at approximately 5:30 AM, following a steady trail toward Mirador San Antonio. The climb takes around 3 hours, gradually gaining elevation as we make our way through the surrounding mountain landscape.
Our effort is rewarded at the viewpoint with spectacular panoramic views over the deep-blue waters of Jurao and Siulacocha Lakes, surrounded by dramatic Andean peaks and rugged valleys. We take time to enjoy the scenery, have a warm drink and a snack, and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of this remote part of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
From the viewpoint, we begin a steep descent over rocky terrain, which takes approximately 2 hours. Once the steepest section is behind us, the trail becomes more gradual, leading us downhill for another 3 hours through a changing landscape.
Along the way, we pass numerous small cascades and waterfalls flowing down the mountain slopes. The sound of running water, green valleys, and towering peaks create a beautiful contrast to the rugged high-altitude landscapes of the previous days.
We eventually reach the traditional Andean village of Huayllapa, located at approximately 3,820 m / 12,532 ft, arriving in the early afternoon.
Optional Accommodation Upgrade
After several nights of mountain camping, travelers who would like a little extra comfort can choose to stay in a simple local guesthouse in Huayllapa. The upgrade costs approximately 35 soles per person and includes basic amenities such as a real bed, hot shower, Wi-Fi, and phone charging.
Alternatively, you can continue with the group and stay in our tents as usual. The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the village, read, take a break, or simply spend time with fellow trekkers and the local community.
Flexible Route Option
Note: If weather conditions are unfavorable or the group is feeling tired after the previous days of trekking, we can modify today’s route. The optional Mirador San Antonio section can be skipped, allowing us to take a shorter and mostly downhill route directly to Huayllapa.
This flexibility allows our guides to adapt the day’s trekking according to weather, trail conditions, and the group’s energy levels, always keeping safety and comfort as priorities.
Back into the high-altitude wilderness — a challenging day with spectacular scenery
Today we leave the lower valley behind and return to the high-altitude landscapes of the Cordillera Huayhuash. It is a demanding day with significant elevation gain, but the changing scenery and panoramic mountain views make the effort well worthwhile.
After breakfast, we begin with a relatively gentle 2.5-hour walk along the river, following a scenic trail through greener landscapes. As we gradually leave Huayllapa behind, the surroundings become quieter and more remote as we approach the Huatiac community.
From Huatiac, the trail becomes noticeably steeper and the main ascent of the day begins. Over the next 2.5 hours, we climb steadily through increasingly rugged terrain toward Tapush Pass, reaching approximately 4,800 m / 15,748 ft.
The ascent is demanding, particularly at this altitude, but reaching the pass is a rewarding achievement. From the top, expansive views open across the surrounding high-altitude landscape, providing an excellent opportunity to rest, take photographs, and appreciate the dramatic scenery of the Huayhuash mountains.
After enjoying the views, we begin our descent toward Gashpapampa Camp. The trail takes approximately 1.5 hours downhill, gradually leading us into a broad alpine landscape where our campsite awaits at approximately 4,350 m / 14,271 ft.
Upon arrival, a hot lunch will be ready, giving you time to refuel and relax after the day’s climb.
One of the highlights of today is the remarkable transformation of the landscape. The route begins among green river valleys and vegetation, gradually changing into rugged páramo and finally opening into the stark, impressive alpine environment surrounding Tapush Pass.
After lunch, enjoy a well-earned rest at camp and take in the surrounding mountain scenery as we prepare for the next stage of the Huayhuash adventure.
An unforgettable day of high mountain passes, ancient forests, and spectacular alpine scenery
Today is one of the most scenic stages of the Huayhuash Trek, combining a peaceful walk through an ancient Andean forest with challenging climbs to two impressive mountain passes before descending to the beautiful shores of Jahuacocha Lake.
After breakfast, we begin with approximately 45 minutes of descent through a forest of ancient Polylepis trees, native high-altitude trees that are easily recognized by their distinctive reddish-brown trunks and peeling bark. Walking beneath these remarkable trees offers a peaceful contrast to the rugged landscapes encountered during the previous days.
From the forest, the trail gradually becomes steeper as we begin the 2.5-hour ascent toward Yauccha Pass, reaching approximately 4,800 m / 15,748 ft. The climb is steady and demanding, but the views become increasingly impressive as we gain elevation.
After reaching Yauccha Pass, we continue for approximately 40 minutes toward Puca Puca Pass, one of the highest points of today’s route at around 4,910 m / 16,108 ft.
From this elevated ridge, the surrounding landscape opens dramatically. On a clear day, you can enjoy extensive views across the Cordillera Huayhuash, with snow-capped peaks, glacial landscapes, and deep mountain valleys stretching in every direction. It is an ideal place to pause, take photographs, and appreciate the scale of the mountain range.
After enjoying the panoramic views, we begin a long and steep descent of approximately 2 hours toward Jahuacocha Lake. The trail gradually drops from the high pass into a spectacular alpine basin, revealing new perspectives of the surrounding mountains with every step.
Eventually, the turquoise waters of Jahuacocha come into view. Our campsite is located near the lake at approximately 4,050 m / 13,287 ft, surrounded by impressive mountain peaks and peaceful high-altitude scenery.
Once we arrive, lunch will be served at camp, giving you plenty of time during the afternoon to rest, explore the surroundings, take photographs, or simply relax beside the lake.
After several challenging days in the mountains, spending the final night beside Jahuacocha is a fitting way to experience the beauty and remoteness of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
The final stage of your Huayhuash adventure
After breakfast, enjoy one last morning overlooking the beautiful turquoise waters of Jahuacocha Lake before beginning the final stage of our trek.
We start with a peaceful 1-hour walk through the valley, following the river along a relatively gentle and mostly flat section of trail. After several demanding days in the mountains, this relaxed beginning provides a welcome opportunity to enjoy the surrounding landscape and reflect on the incredible journey so far.
The trail then begins to climb once more. Our final ascent takes approximately 2 hours, leading us toward a farewell mountain pass and one last spectacular viewpoint over the Cordillera Huayhuash.
From this elevated vantage point, take time to appreciate the snow-capped peaks, glaciers, valleys, and vast alpine landscapes that have accompanied us throughout the trek. It is a fitting final panorama before leaving this remarkable mountain range behind.
From the pass, we begin our final 2-hour descent toward the Pocpa Community. As we gradually lose elevation, the landscape changes once again, marking the transition from the high mountains toward the lower valleys.
Upon reaching Pocpa, we celebrate the completion of our Huayhuash adventure with a hearty lunch at a local restaurant. This is a great opportunity to relax, share experiences with your fellow trekkers, and thank the local team who supported you throughout the journey.
After lunch, our private transportation will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz. The scenic drive takes approximately 4.5 hours, passing through the impressive Andean landscapes surrounding the Huayhuash region.
We expect to arrive in Huaraz at approximately 5:00 PM, marking the official end of your trek.
After eight days of high-altitude trekking, remote mountain landscapes, turquoise lakes, and spectacular passes, you can finally enjoy a hot shower, a comfortable bed, and a well-deserved celebration in Huaraz.

The Huayhuash Trek takes you deep into one of the most remote and spectacular mountain ranges in Peru. The route includes several high-altitude passes, remote campsites, rugged terrain, and significant changes in weather throughout the day.
Conditions can vary quickly, from strong sun and dry weather during the day to cold temperatures, strong winds, rain, or snow at higher elevations. Nights at camp can be particularly cold, so proper clothing and sleeping equipment are essential.
Because this is an 8-day high-altitude trek, packing efficiently is very important. We recommend bringing only the essentials and organizing your belongings so that the items you need during the day are easy to access.
For daily hiking, we recommend a comfortable 20–30 liter daypack. Your larger trekking luggage can be transported by our support team and pack animals, allowing you to hike with a lighter backpack.

What Not to Bring
Avoid carrying unnecessary or bulky items. The Huayhuash Trek includes long hiking days at high altitude, and carrying excessive weight can make the experience significantly more demanding.
We recommend leaving behind:
Excessive clothing
Large toiletry bags
Unnecessary electronics
Heavy luggage
Items you are unlikely to use during the trek
Pack Smart & Travel Light
The most practical approach for the Huayhuash Trek is to dress in layers and pack according to changing mountain conditions.
Keep your rain jacket, warm layer, sunscreen, sunglasses, water, snacks, trekking poles, and personal medications easily accessible in your daypack.
Clothing, sleeping gear, and electronics should be protected inside waterproof bags or dry bags in case of rain or snow.
Since the trek includes multiple nights of camping above 4,000 m / 13,123 ft, make sure your sleeping bag, warm layers, gloves, and other cold-weather equipment are appropriate for high-altitude conditions.
Your larger luggage can be transported by the trekking support team and pack animals, allowing you to focus on the trail without carrying unnecessary weight.
Our Recommendation: Acclimatize Before the Trek
For a safer, more comfortable, and enjoyable experience, we strongly recommend arriving in Huaraz at least 2–3 days before starting the Huayhuash Trek.
Proper acclimatization gives your body time to gradually adjust to the altitude before you begin crossing the higher mountain passes.
The trek reaches approximately 5,020 m / 16,469 ft at Trapecio Pass, while the optional San Antonio Pass reaches approximately 5,100 m / 16,732 ft.
Proper acclimatization, hydration, good nutrition, adequate rest, appropriate clothing, and a lightweight backpack are all important for a successful high-altitude trekking experience.
Pack smart, acclimatize properly, stay hydrated, and prepare for changing mountain conditions — then enjoy the extraordinary landscapes of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
The Huayhuash Trek is considered a challenging high-altitude trek. The route includes several long hiking days, steep ascents and descents, rugged terrain, and mountain passes above 4,500 meters (14,764 feet). Good physical fitness and proper acclimatization are essential.
The standard route reaches approximately 5,020 meters (16,469 feet) at Trapecio Pass. An optional extension to San Antonio Pass can reach approximately 5,100 meters (16,732 feet). The optional section is only recommended for well-acclimatized and physically prepared trekkers.
The trek covers approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) over eight days, depending on the exact route and optional sections completed. Daily distances vary according to the terrain, elevation gain, and campsite locations.
Yes. We strongly recommend spending at least 2–3 days in Huaraz before beginning the trek. This gives your body time to adjust to the altitude and can significantly improve your comfort and performance on the trail.
On Day 1, pickup is around 4:00 AM from your hotel in Huaraz. We then travel by road toward the Huayhuash region, stopping for breakfast before continuing to the trailhead at Cuartelhuain.
The trek starts near Cuartelhuain in the Cordillera Huayhuash and finishes in the Pocpa Community. From Pocpa, private transportation takes you back to Huaraz, where you should arrive at approximately 5:00 PM on Day 8.
You will spend 7 nights camping in the mountains. We provide quality four-season tents, sleeping mats, dining and kitchen equipment, tables, chairs, and the essential camping equipment required for the trek.
Yes. The trek includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the itinerary, with boxed lunches provided on days when necessary. Our trekking cook prepares fresh, nutritious meals designed to provide enough energy for high-altitude hiking. Vegetarian and special dietary requirements can be arranged with advance notice.
Yes. Pack horses are used to transport camping equipment, food, group supplies, and other trekking logistics. However, horses are not permitted on certain protected sections of the route, such as the area around the Three Lakes Viewpoint. In these sections, our horsemen follow an alternative route and reunite with the group later.
The horses primarily transport the group’s equipment and supplies rather than serving as regular riding animals. Availability for personal riding may depend on the route, local regulations, weather, and the horsemen’s assessment. Some sections also prohibit horses completely.
Previous high-altitude trekking experience is helpful but not strictly required. However, you should be physically prepared for several consecutive days of demanding hiking at high altitude. Regular cardiovascular training, hiking, and stair or uphill training before your trip are highly recommended.
You should bring warm and waterproof clothing, sturdy trekking boots, a 20–30-liter daypack, sleeping bag, trekking poles, rain gear, thermal layers, gloves, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottle or hydration system, headlamp, personal medication, and basic toiletries.
Because temperatures can drop significantly at night, a good cold-weather sleeping bag is especially important.
Weather in the Cordillera Huayhuash can change quickly. Days may be sunny and relatively warm, while nights at high camps can be very cold, with temperatures potentially dropping below freezing. Rain, snow, strong winds, and intense sunshine are all possible, so proper layering is essential.
The Huayhuash Trek takes place in a remote and demanding high-altitude environment, but we carefully plan the route and provide an experienced local mountain guide and professional support team. We also carry a first-aid kit and emergency oxygen. The itinerary may be modified if weather, trail conditions, altitude, or other circumstances create a safety concern.
Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. If you experience symptoms such as severe headache, dizziness, nausea, unusual weakness, or difficulty breathing, inform your guide immediately. Our guides monitor the group and can adjust the pace, recommend rest, or modify the itinerary when necessary. In serious situations, descent and evacuation take priority over completing the trek.
The Huayhuash Trek passes through remote mountain areas where electricity, Wi-Fi, and mobile phone coverage are limited or unavailable. We recommend bringing a fully charged power bank and keeping your electronic devices protected from cold, rain, and moisture.
There are no regular hot showers at the remote mountain campsites. You should be prepared for basic mountain camping conditions and bring wet wipes, biodegradable soap, and a small quick-drying towel. An optional local guesthouse in Huayllapa may offer a hot shower, bed, Wi-Fi, and charging facilities, subject to availability and an additional fee.
Yes. Mountain weather can be unpredictable, particularly at high altitude. Heavy snowfall, rain, strong winds, landslides, trail conditions, or local restrictions may require changes to the planned route, campsites, transportation, or hiking schedule. Safety always comes first, and your guide will make the final decision based on current conditions.
The best period is generally during the drier months, when trekking conditions are usually more favorable. However, mountain weather can change at any time of year. Even during the dry season, you should be prepared for cold temperatures, rain, snow, and strong winds at high elevations.
To reserve your trek, send us your booking information and complete the required 30% deposit. Once your reservation is confirmed, your departure is guaranteed according to the agreed itinerary. The remaining balance is paid upon arrival in Huaraz before the trek begins.
We operate the trek with our own professional team and do not transfer or combine our passengers with another tour operator’s group. This allows us to maintain better control over the service, logistics, safety, and overall trekking experience.

10/10 Experience - Would Recommend! We had an amazing time on the Salkantay 5 Day Trek. Before the trip started, Quechuas had great communication and was very accommodating to our travel schedule, including adjusting our briefing time with our guide. The skydome accomodations were great (all fairly spacious, with exception of night 2, which was fine as we didn’t spend much time there), the food was delicious (a great variety and always more than enough to go around) and the trek itself was beautiful. Our guide Steven, as well as second guide Jorge, were very patient, knowledgeable and kind to us and the others in our group - not only did we get to see incredible scenery but we also learned a lot about the local landscape and culture. We rented sleeping bags, which we would highly recommend. We brought our own hiking poles but would recommend renting if you don’t bring your own.Overall, an amazing experience and we would highly recommend this company.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Seamless and Supportive Inca Trail Experience – Highly Recommend We recently completed the 4-day Classic Inca Trail trek with Quechuas Expeditions in June 2025, and overall had a fantastic experience that struck the perfect balance between physical challenge and logistical ease. Our guide, Fernando (“Nando”), was outstanding—passionate, deeply knowledgeable about the trail’s rich history, and highly supportive throughout. He kept our group motivated and informed, and managed different paces and needs with professionalism and care. His English was great, and he always made time to answer questions or share interesting stories along the way.The porter and chef team were phenomenal. Every meal was different, delicious, and plentiful—we were never hungry, and dietary needs (including vegan and vegetarian) were handled without issue. They even baked a custom cake on the trail for a couple’s anniversary, which speaks volumes about their care and capability. The porters themselves were friendly, warm, and constantly going above and beyond to support us.Quechuas provided tents, sleeping bags, a toilet tent, and hot water for face washing each morning, plus coca tea as a wake-up touch. The duffel service was useful, though we did find the weight limits a bit tighter than expected once you factor in the sleeping bag. In the end, we paid for an extra porter—which was easy to arrange but worth noting for those planning their packing. One thing we didn’t know in advance: the porter bags aren’t waterproof, so future trekkers may want to use dry bags or line the inside with plastic.Another small consideration: due to how campsites are assigned (by the government, not the tour company), some days ended up being longer than the traditional day-by-day breakdown you might read online. While not Quechuas’ fault, for myself, as much heads-up as possible would’ve helped with my own mental preparation. All said, Quechuas Expeditions delivered where it mattered most. The logistics were smooth, the staff was superb, and their support allowed us to focus on enjoying the trail and the breathtaking views without worrying about the rest. This is a company that knows what it’s doing.Would I recommend them? Absolutely—whether you’re a first-time trekker or experienced hiker, they make an unforgettable journey that much more seamless and enjoyable. If I ever do this again, I would book with them without question, and if possible, request the exact same team. Thank you Fernando and team for a trip of a lifetime and memories that will stay with me forever 🙏Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Amazing trip on the Inca Trail with Quechuas Expeditions I never imagined that the Inca Trail could be so transformative. My partner and I decided to do the classic 4-day trek with Quechuas Expeditions and, honestly, it exceeded all our expectations. From the very first moment we felt very welcome. The service was impeccable, they were always attentive to our needs, solving all our doubts before and during the trek. The hike was not easy, but the views, the fresh mountain air and the energy of the group kept us going without thinking about how tiring it was. The meals at the campsites surprised us pleasantly, we really did not expect so much variety and flavor in the middle of the mountain. And the end, reaching Machu Picchu through the sun gate (Inti Punku) was simply magical, there are no words to describe that moment. It is definitely a unique experience that connects you with the history, culture and nature of Peru. Thank you Quechuas Expeditions for making this trip so special!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Hardest challenge of my life but worth it One of the hardest things I have ever done (definitely underestimate the difficulty level), and I don’t know if I would have made it if it wasn’t for our awesome guide Frenando and all the amazing staff we had. What a fantastic group of people. The porters are so hard working, it’s so humbling. The chef Taco was fantastic! I am vegan and he made me the most amazing food the entire time. I couldn’t believe it. And then our guide Fernando topped it all. Knowledgeable, professional yet fun, very personable, very patient (we were slow!) and very encouraging. If you are considering taking on this challenge, I highly recommend Quechua’s Expeditions and if you can request Fernando. E sure to do so. He’s been doing this for 19yrs!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Hike of a lifetime! We had the most amazing time! The different sceneries along the trek are just unbelievable and although being two fairly unfit persons we could enjoy it all the way. Fernando and Steven are terrific guides making sure we were all comfortable and happy at all times. The food and accommodations along the way were also a lot more luxurious than what we’d expected. Would 100% recommend this to anyone who’s up for a hike!!
