Experience the best of Peru in this unforgettable journey through Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Begin in Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire, rich in culture and ancient ruins. Continue through the Sacred Valley, where you’ll explore Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and traditional Andean life surrounded by stunning landscapes. Then, embark on the 2-day Short Inca Trail, hiking through cloud forests and past archaeological sites, arriving at Machu Picchu through the iconic Sun Gate. A perfect mix of adventure, history, and breathtaking views in just a few days.
Upon arrival at Cusco Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our representative, who will assist you with transportation to your hotel. Upon check-in, you will be offered an aromatic cup of coca tea, a traditional Andean remedy known to help alleviate the symptoms of altitude sickness. This tea will help you feel more at ease and better adjust to Cusco’s high altitude.
You will have the morning free to relax and recover from your journey. We suggest you take it easy and avoid heavy meals; a light lunch either at your hotel or in one of the nearby restaurants is recommended. The city of Cusco, situated at over 11,000 feet (3,400 meters), requires time for acclimatization, so it’s essential to rest and take things slowly during the first few hours.
In the afternoon, we will begin your City Tour at around 1:30 PM. The first stop is the Main Square (Plaza de Armas), the heart of Cusco, surrounded by impressive colonial buildings. From there, we will visit the Cusco Cathedral, a majestic example of colonial architecture, housing a remarkable collection of religious artwork.
Next, we will explore the Koricancha (Temple of the Sun), once the most important temple in the Inca Empire, dedicated to Inti, the sun god. The remnants of its walls, still covered in gold leaf, speak to its former glory.
We will continue the tour by visiting the nearby archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman Fortress, Q’enko, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay. Sacsayhuaman is an ancient Inca ceremonial center with massive stone walls that have withstood the test of time. Q’enko is another archaeological site, known for its labyrinth of tunnels and carvings. Puka Pukara is a military outpost, and Tambomachay is an Inca site dedicated to water worship, with fountains and aqueducts still functional today.
The City Tour concludes around 6:30 PM at the Main Square, giving you ample time to stroll around the area, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy dinner at one of Cusco’s many exquisite restaurants. Afterward, you will return to your hotel to rest and enjoy a peaceful overnight stay.
Note: No meals are included during this part of the tour, but plenty of dining options are available for your convenience.
After breakfast, you’ll be picked up at 8:15 AM for a full-day excursion to the Urubamba Valley. First, we’ll visit the colorful Pisac market, where you can interact with local artisans, practice your bargaining skills, and shop for handmade souvenirs. Pisac is located 31 km (19 miles) from Cusco, at an altitude of 2,970 meters (9,700 feet), and serves as the gateway to the Sacred Valley.
Next, we’ll head to Ollantaytambo, an ancient town that has been continuously inhabited since Inca times. The town’s narrow streets and water channels remain unchanged since the Inca period. We’ll explore the Ollantaytambo archaeological site and enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we’ll take the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, a 2-hour journey through lush landscapes. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you’ll check into your hotel for an overnight stay.
Included: Breakfast, lunch, and overnight accommodation in Aguas Calientes.
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred from your hotel to the train station, where you’ll board the train to KM 104. Once at KM 104, the trek begins, lasting approximately 3 hours to the well-preserved ruins of Wiñay Wayna, situated at an altitude of 2,900 meters. During the hike, you’ll pass by stunning waterfalls and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Sacred Valley.
After exploring Wiñay Wayna, you’ll have a lunch break before continuing your trek for another 2 hours. This final stretch leads to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you’ll have your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu. From the Sun Gate, you’ll descend to Machu Picchu town (Aguas Calientes) to rest and overnight.
Included: Trek, lunch, and overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.
Today we visit the remarkable Machu Picchu. There is no way to describe the feeling of the first views of Machu Picchu, as the mist rises off the mountains early in the morning and the famous ruin appears in front of you. It may be called the Sun Gate but bear in mind we are in the cloud forest and sometimes “Cloud Gate” would be a more suitable name. The morning is dedicated to exploring the extraordinary site of Machu Picchu, where your guide will be on hand to explain and give you an insight into the life of the Incas at Machu Picchu. For the keen, there’s also the opportunity to climb the sacred peak of Huaya Picchu. In the afternoon, we take the train from Aguas Calientes back to Cusco. Approx. walking time 2 hours.(HOTEL)
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, transportation will be provided to take you to the airport. (B) END OF THE SERVICE.
If you’re interested in extending your trip, we offer additional tours and treks. You can explore the Nazca Lines, the Amazon Rainforest, the stunning Colca Canyon, and much more. Let us know, and we will help you plan the perfect extension to your journey.

Most people automatically assume that the weather is hot in South America, but because of the higher altitude in the Andes, the temperature can feel quite cold, especially at night. We recommend the use of a duffel bag or backpack, whichever is easiest for you to carry. A good size daypack is also essential.
List of things you must bring:
1. What is included in an Inca Trail package?
An Inca Trail package typically includes permits for the trail, transportation to the starting point, a guide, porters to carry camping equipment, meals along the trail, and accommodation (usually in campsites along the way). Some packages may also include additional services like entrance fees to Machu Picchu and additional tours.
2. How long is the Inca Trail?
The Inca Trail is about 26 miles (43 kilometers) long and usually takes 4 days to complete. Hikers travel through diverse ecosystems, ancient Inca ruins, and spectacular views of the Andes mountains.
3. Do I need a permit to hike the Inca Trail?
Yes, you need a permit to hike the Inca Trail. The Peruvian government limits the number of hikers per day, and these permits can sell out quickly, so it’s important to book in advance.
4. Can I hike the Inca Trail independently?
No, independent trekking is not allowed on the Inca Trail. You must hike with a licensed tour operator. The tour operator will provide a guide, porters, and necessary logistics.
5. What should I pack for the Inca Trail?
For the Inca Trail package requires comfortable clothing for hiking, a sleeping bag, a rain jacket, hiking boots, sunscreen, a hat, a flashlight, and personal items. Most tour operators provide a detailed packing list.
6. How difficult is the Inca Trail package?
The Inca Trail is considered moderate to challenging. The trek involves steep inclines, high altitudes (up to 13,800 feet or 4,200 meters), and variable weather. It’s important to be in good physical condition before attempting the trail.
7. When is the best time to hike the Inca Trail?
The best time to hike the Inca Trail is during the dry season, which typically runs from April to October. The trail is closed for maintenance during February.
8. How can I get to Machu Picchu after completing the Inca Trail package?
Once you complete the Inca Trail, you will arrive at the Machu Picchu entrance. After visiting the site, you can take a bus or hike down to Aguas Calientes, where you can catch a train back to Cusco.
9. Is there an age limit for the Inca Trail?
While there is no official age limit, the Inca Trail is physically demanding, so it’s recommended for those aged 12 to 60. Children under 12 may be allowed to hike with a special permit, but the trek might be difficult for them.
10. How far in advance should I book an Inca Trail package?
It’s best to book your Inca Trail package 4 to 6 months in advance, as permits can sell out quickly, especially during the peak tourist seasons.

Posted on Sara DVerified 10/10 Experience - Would Recommend! We had an amazing time on the Salkantay 5 Day Trek. Before the trip started, Quechuas had great communication and was very accommodating to our travel schedule, including adjusting our briefing time with our guide. The skydome accomodations were great (all fairly spacious, with exception of night 2, which was fine as we didn’t spend much time there), the food was delicious (a great variety and always more than enough to go around) and the trek itself was beautiful. Our guide Steven, as well as second guide Jorge, were very patient, knowledgeable and kind to us and the others in our group - not only did we get to see incredible scenery but we also learned a lot about the local landscape and culture. We rented sleeping bags, which we would highly recommend. We brought our own hiking poles but would recommend renting if you don’t bring your own.Overall, an amazing experience and we would highly recommend this company.Posted on Matthew WVerified Seamless and Supportive Inca Trail Experience – Highly Recommend We recently completed the 4-day Classic Inca Trail trek with Quechuas Expeditions in June 2025, and overall had a fantastic experience that struck the perfect balance between physical challenge and logistical ease. Our guide, Fernando (“Nando”), was outstanding—passionate, deeply knowledgeable about the trail’s rich history, and highly supportive throughout. He kept our group motivated and informed, and managed different paces and needs with professionalism and care. His English was great, and he always made time to answer questions or share interesting stories along the way.The porter and chef team were phenomenal. Every meal was different, delicious, and plentiful—we were never hungry, and dietary needs (including vegan and vegetarian) were handled without issue. They even baked a custom cake on the trail for a couple’s anniversary, which speaks volumes about their care and capability. The porters themselves were friendly, warm, and constantly going above and beyond to support us.Quechuas provided tents, sleeping bags, a toilet tent, and hot water for face washing each morning, plus coca tea as a wake-up touch. The duffel service was useful, though we did find the weight limits a bit tighter than expected once you factor in the sleeping bag. In the end, we paid for an extra porter—which was easy to arrange but worth noting for those planning their packing. One thing we didn’t know in advance: the porter bags aren’t waterproof, so future trekkers may want to use dry bags or line the inside with plastic.Another small consideration: due to how campsites are assigned (by the government, not the tour company), some days ended up being longer than the traditional day-by-day breakdown you might read online. While not Quechuas’ fault, for myself, as much heads-up as possible would’ve helped with my own mental preparation. All said, Quechuas Expeditions delivered where it mattered most. The logistics were smooth, the staff was superb, and their support allowed us to focus on enjoying the trail and the breathtaking views without worrying about the rest. This is a company that knows what it’s doing.Would I recommend them? Absolutely—whether you’re a first-time trekker or experienced hiker, they make an unforgettable journey that much more seamless and enjoyable. If I ever do this again, I would book with them without question, and if possible, request the exact same team. Thank you Fernando and team for a trip of a lifetime and memories that will stay with me forever 🙏Posted on Arianna OVerified Amazing trip on the Inca Trail with Quechuas Expeditions I never imagined that the Inca Trail could be so transformative. My partner and I decided to do the classic 4-day trek with Quechuas Expeditions and, honestly, it exceeded all our expectations. From the very first moment we felt very welcome. The service was impeccable, they were always attentive to our needs, solving all our doubts before and during the trek. The hike was not easy, but the views, the fresh mountain air and the energy of the group kept us going without thinking about how tiring it was. The meals at the campsites surprised us pleasantly, we really did not expect so much variety and flavor in the middle of the mountain. And the end, reaching Machu Picchu through the sun gate (Inti Punku) was simply magical, there are no words to describe that moment. It is definitely a unique experience that connects you with the history, culture and nature of Peru. Thank you Quechuas Expeditions for making this trip so special!Posted on naomiammarVerified Hardest challenge of my life but worth it One of the hardest things I have ever done (definitely underestimate the difficulty level), and I don’t know if I would have made it if it wasn’t for our awesome guide Frenando and all the amazing staff we had. What a fantastic group of people. The porters are so hard working, it’s so humbling. The chef Taco was fantastic! I am vegan and he made me the most amazing food the entire time. I couldn’t believe it. And then our guide Fernando topped it all. Knowledgeable, professional yet fun, very personable, very patient (we were slow!) and very encouraging. If you are considering taking on this challenge, I highly recommend Quechua’s Expeditions and if you can request Fernando. E sure to do so. He’s been doing this for 19yrs!Posted on cade cVerified Awesome trek We really enjoyed our trip. It was challenging and also rewarding. Beautiful views and even better food. I can’t rave enough about our cook Santiago! Food was unbelievable. Jose did a fantastic job leading us along the way. He did a good job of explaining what we are seeing! Looking for a physical challenge with beautiful views this is the trek for you.Posted on Lola UVerified Demanding, enriching and unforgettable thanks to the human team I will always be grateful to the rich food and attentions of Santiago, the cook, the professionalism and good advice of José, the guide, the kindness of the helpers, who have made it possible to improve the experience.Posted on Julia C.Verified Amazing trek, amazing guide and staff The Salkantay Trek was absolutely stunning, domes and the views were great with hot water available. What the trek made very special was our guide Nildo. Also, the chef Julian, horseman and second guide were incredible too. Nildo was knowledgeable, caring and passionate about everything he shared. I cannot imagine a better guide :-) Everything was very well organized.Posted on Emelie AVerified Hike of a lifetime! We had the most amazing time! The different sceneries along the trek are just unbelievable and although being two fairly unfit persons we could enjoy it all the way. Fernando and Steven are terrific guides making sure we were all comfortable and happy at all times. The food and accommodations along the way were also a lot more luxurious than what we’d expected. Would 100% recommend this to anyone who’s up for a hike!!
