3 Days Pacaya Samiria National Reserve tour | Ultimate Iquitos Amazon Experience

Upon arrival at the airport—or with pickup from your hotel—we begin our journey into the Peruvian Amazon. We travel by road to the town of Nauta, the first settlement founded by the Spanish along the banks of the Marañón River. The journey covers approximately 97 km and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

En route to the port of Nauta, we visit San Joaquín de Omaguas, one of the oldest settlements in the Loreto region. From here, we will observe the origin of the majestic Amazon River, the longest and most voluminous river on the planet. We will also stop at the Samuel Fritz Interpretation Center, where our guides will share the history of San Joaquín de Omaguas and explain its strategic importance during the 17th and 18th centuries as a central hub for evangelical missions led by Samuel Fritz.

At the port of Nauta, we board a motorized boat and continue our journey along the river toward the ecolodge. During the high-water season, we will visit Fundo Casual, an area ideal for observing native flora and fauna. Upon arrival at the ecolodge, we will be warmly welcomed by a descendant of the Kukama Kukamiria people, who will offer a refreshing drink prepared with seasonal fruits. Guests will then be assigned to their private bungalows.

After lunch, our guide will invite guests to choose a sustainable activity to take part in during their stay, such as planting a tree or plant, or learning ten basic words in the Kukama language.

To further enrich the experience, guests will have the opportunity to explore the Ethnobotanical Eco-Trail, featuring ten species of Amazonian flora, supported by Amana, a virtual guide generated through the lodge’s augmented reality app.

After dinner, our guide will host an engaging talk on Amazonian myths and legends, followed by a walk along the Mythological Eco-Trail, where five iconic characters from Amazonian mythology are brought to life through interpretation and storytelling.

After breakfast, our guide will invite you to explore the private reserve of the ecolodge, located within a restinga forest ecosystem. This visit will awaken your adventurous spirit as you follow trails immersed in extraordinary biodiversity. Enjoy a guided interpretive walk focused on local flora and fauna, tracing the routes of primates and other wildlife while learning about the traditional medicinal uses of native plants and trees.
During the walk, you will also experience the Fauna Ecotrail, an interactive activity that provides deeper insight into six representative species of the area through the narration of a virtual guide.

In the afternoon, we will depart for the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, entering through the Nauta Caño sector, where we will complete the registration process before officially accessing the reserve.

Once inside, we will embark on a wildlife excursion in search of pink and gray river dolphins along the nearby creek, while remaining in close contact with the immense diversity of flora and fauna that characterizes this protected area. One of the most striking features of the journey is the river itself: its calm waters reflect the sky, clouds, riverside vegetation, and towering trees with such clarity that it feels as though you are navigating through endless mirrors—hence why Pacaya Samiria is often called “The Forest of Mirrors.”

Throughout the journey, you will have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of bird species and participate in a traditional artisanal fishing demonstration, using the same tools employed by Amazonian communities for subsistence.

In the evening, enjoy a nocturnal excursion through the forest surrounding the ecolodge, offering a unique perspective on the rainforest’s nighttime life.

After breakfast, enjoy a boat excursion along the Marañón River to Shiriyacu Lagoon, subject to seasonal conditions and suitable fishing opportunities. This tranquil journey offers a final immersion into the Amazon’s waterways and landscapes.

We will then visit the San Jorge Community, including the Women Artisans’ Center Pua Kamatawara, renowned for its exquisite handcrafted pieces made from natural chambira fiber and traditional carvings using wingo (calabash gourd). This visit provides meaningful insight into local culture, craftsmanship, and community-based sustainability.
Return to the ecolodge.

At the appropriate time, we will board the boat bound for the port of Nauta. Upon arrival, land transportation will take us to Iquitos.
