Tambopata Sandoval Lake 1/D

If you were going to choose a palm tree  in Sandoval Lake  to represent the Amazon Rainforest, it would definitely have to be the Aguaje. In Amazonian , where the people eat approximately twenty tons of this fruit per day, the women who sell this fruit, called “aguajeras”, have turned into an important part of the local economy. The aguaje is a multiple use species since its leaves, inflorescence, fruit bunches, seeds, and even its roots are used by local populations. Parrots colonize the dead trees in order to build their nests, and it is food for the delicious American palm weevil. And if all that were not enough, its fruit pulp is one of the most nutritious tropical foods (its Vitamin A content is five times higher that of the carrot). Besides all the benefits it possesses, its environmental services are even more overwhelming.

Macaw Clay lick 2/D 1/N

The Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick is one of the largest and most spectacular clay licks in the world. It is located in the Tambopata National Reserve in southern Peru, and it is home to a variety of colorful parrots and macaws.

On this tour, you will have the opportunity to see thousands of these birds gather at the clay lick to eat the mineral-rich soil. The clay helps to detoxify the birds and provides them with essential nutrients.

In addition to seeing the macaws, you will also have the chance to see other Amazonian wildlife, such as capybaras, tapirs, and caimans. You will also learn about the importance of the Amazon rainforest and how to protect it.

Tambopata Natural Area is one of the very few areas that contains lowland and foothill rainforests, but also connects to cloud forests at higher elevations.

few people were living in Tambopata’s most remote areas. Conservationists realized that the region could act as a major corridor between Manu National Park and Bolivia’s jungles. The area also harbored healthy populations of Tapirs, Jaguars and other felines, Giant Otters, Harpy Eagles, many types of Macaws, and other animals that had disappeared from other parts of Amazonia. (Click here to see a detailed page of our Lodge)
